Thank you for prioritizing pancreatic cancer patients!

Dear [Decision Maker],

As your constituent, and someone who has been impacted by pancreatic cancer, I am extremely grateful to Congress for providing $15 million for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Program at the Department of Defense for FY21! I also appreciate the $1.25 billion increase for the National Institutes of Health, which includes a $119.5 million increase for the National Cancer Institute.

Pancreatic cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States, and the five-year survival rate is just 10%. Over 57,000 Americans were diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year and nearly 47,000 died from it, including Congressman John Lewis, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and most recently, Alex Trebek. For these individuals and so many others who continue to fight, I'm grateful for your support.

While progress is being made, these facts and statistics tell us more must be done. The research investment provided to the Department of Defense and National Institutes of Health will provide researchers additional resources to accelerate much needed new treatments and early detection strategies for pancreatic cancer.

I care deeply about pancreatic cancer patients and their families and recognize the critical role you play in funding research and saving lives. Thank you for standing with me and prioritizing our nation's investment in medical research.

Sincerely,
