Rowing is a massive part of my life. I spend a tenth of every week at rowing practice, and I care about it a lot. Each day I go through tough mental and physical training in order to get stronger in rowing, and it has shown benefit to my mood and energy. Ever since I started rowing in the spring of 2021, I have noticed that my energy levels have skyrocketed and that I have grown much more patient in my daily activities. Because rowing is a great part of my life, this year I wanted to connect it to another large part of my life: my family.
My family has a history of cancer. Before I was born, my grandmother suffered from two separate cases of stage four cancer and survived. Recently, my step-grandfather was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. This means that the cancerous cells have spread to other organs, and has become several times more fatal. Pancreatic cancer has one of the lowest survival rates of any cancer and is the third leading cause of cancer death in the United States.
I’d like to raise funds and bring people’s attention to pancreatic cancer research in hopes that people who suffer from pancreatic cancer may have a surefire way to recover in the future. That is why I will be rowing ten meters for every dollar donated. All money raised will be donated to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
