Donna Vlasak-Lidsky passed away on May 13, 2023 at UNC Hospice in Pittsboro, NC as a result of pancreatic cancer. Donna was born on January 25, 1949 (age 74) in Binghamton, NY to Frank and Jarmila Vlasak (deceased). She is survived by her husband Mike Lidsky, and son Jon Mark (Silver Spring, MD) and daughter Jill Maree (North Bethesda, MD) and sister Jean (Cranberry Twp., PA).
Donna attended Cornell University where she majored in design and environmental analysis and the University of Michigan where she received a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning. She worked as a transportation planner for several municipal planning agencies, the consulting firm HDR, the Washington Metropolitan Transit Agency, and the Transportation Research Board of the National Academy of Sciences, where she retired as a Senior Program Officer in December of 2015. In her youth she was very active in Sokols (a Czechoslovakian sponsored gymnastics organization) and was an avid skier. During the time she lived in Alexandria, VA (where she met Mike), she was a volunteer for the Special Olympics.
She and Mike moved to Governors Club in Chapel Hill, NC in 2019 after having lived in Silver Spring, MD for 34 years where they raised their family. She loved celebrating family birthdays and holidays (Easter, Halloween, Chanukah, and Christmas with sister Jean and family) and spending time living in Governors Club and taking walks with the family’s black Labrador, Vinnie.
