Joe was exhibiting classic symptoms of pancreatic cancer as early as January 2024, yet for months his providers ignored his requests for more testing. He was misdiagnosed and led to believe he had a simple infection before nearly succumbing to kidney failure. When he was finally rushed to the ER in May of 2024, he received the life altering news that he had a 3cm adenocarcinoma in the head of his pancreas. Joe overcame many difficulties during his treatment, enduring a weeks' long recovery from the Whipple procedure and several hospitalizations as a result of chemotherapy side effects. As pancreatic cancer often does, it recurred at the site of surgery within 5 months. Rather than endure the offered treatment plan of palliative chemotherapy, Joe opted to spend his remaining weeks on hospice. Joe was comforted at home until his final breath alongside his loving wife.

It is my intention to spread awareness far and wide, sharing my dad's story as a cautionary tale. My dad was his own best advocate and yet the medical community supporting him was grossly underprepared to identify his cancer.
