In loving memory of my mom, Mary Breheny, whose strength and unwavering love touched the lives of everyone who knew her, I am supporting PanCAN’s mission to create a world where pancreatic cancer patients can thrive.
There are some people in life who are simply unforgettable, and my mom was one of them.
She had a one-of-a-kind personality that could fill a room with laughter and warmth. Her energy was infectious and magnetic. She was the most welcoming person you could ever meet, the kind of woman who made you feel like family five minutes after meeting her. She had this beautiful way of making everyone feel comfortable.
She loved to bust chops and had a sharp, playful wit that kept us all on our toes. She lived for a juicy story and always wanted to know the latest gossip. She wanted to know what was going on in your world so she could cheer you on, laugh with you, or offer her shoulder when you needed it. She had a heart bigger than words can express and would do anything for the people she loved.
When pancreatic cancer came into our lives, it tried to dim that light. But true to her character, my mom met it with courage, humor, and the same fire that made her who she was. She fought for time with us, with strength and grace that still takes my breath away. Even during the hardest days, she stayed concerned about us and how we were doing. That was just who she was.
Losing her has left a hole that will never truly be filled. But I find comfort in the stories we share, in the laughs we still have when we remember something she said or did, and in carrying her spirit forward in everything I do.
This tribute is for her -- for her strength, her sass, her laughter, and her love. It’s also for the countless families still fighting this cruel disease. Through awareness, research, and community, I believe we can make a difference.
Mom, you were and always will be our heart. We miss you more than words can say. Thank you for being the light in our lives. I promise to keep your fire burning.
