DIY Fundraising for
Pancreatic Cancer Action Network
Hey, there!
CrossFit CDI is taking steps to end pancreatic cancer on Saturday, October 12, 2024 by hosting a special WOD (workout of the day) in honor of Melissa Lese & Amy Ogurcak who lost their lives to pancreatic cancer. Location: CrossFit CDI 2560 Eastern Blvd York, PA 17402. WOD starts at 9am.
Melissa lost her battle with pancreatic cancer in August 2022 while Amy lost a long 5-year battle to pancreatic cancer in October 2023. Losing Melissa & Amy has been devasting to their families & friends as they were both incredible women who brought happiness to so many.
Amy was a fighter and never ever gave up. She was the most positive, loving, and beautiful person. Amy had always been such an inspiration to all of us for her continued strength and positivity that she had shown us for the past 5 years during her battle with cancer. Amy was first diagnosed in summer of 2018 with stage 4 neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer, in which she underwent numerous rounds of chemotherapy. Every year she went through another round of chemo, which she always went into with a positive mindset and was ready to defeat cancer. Devastatingly, the horrific disease could not be controlled any longer.
Melissa was only 49 when diagnosed, mother of 3 incredible daughters, and a loving/caring wife. Melissa unfortunately had an aggressive type of cancer (squamous carcinoma) that took her life only 10 months after diagnosis. Melissa was a fighter. She endured a 7-hour surgery to remove the tumor to only find out two months later the cancer had spread. Melissa had months of chemotherapy but unfortunately this deadly disease could not be stopped.
Both Melissa & Amy were determined to beat cancer. In their honor, we want to work to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer in hopes of improving processes for early detection and for better treatments allowing positive outcomes for the unfortunate people who are inflicted with this terrible cancer.
