Ain't Love Grand?!  That's what my grandfather always used to say.  And he would know - he was married to my grandmother for 64 years!  They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a special blessing at my own wedding ceremony.  What a great example and inspiration they were to me!

Pancreatic cancer claimed my grandfather's life just 3 1/2 months after his diagnosis.  My grandmother was diagnosed with the same disease 4 years later and died about two months later.  The only comfort to all of us was knowing that she would be able to be with her beloved "Sonny" again. 

Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of all major cancers, at a five-year survival rate of only 13%.  Diagnosis can be challenging, as symptoms don't often present until advanced cancer stages.  At this point, treatment options are limited and prognosis is grim.   But we can do better, and now I'm honoring my grandparents through my involvement in the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network to raise awareness of this disease and fundraising to support future research endeavors.  As I follow the scientific advancements for treating pancreatic cancer, I have a lot of hope that we can increase that 5-year survival rate! 

During my time growing up with them, my grandparents played a major role in my life, supporting and encouraging me to become the woman I am today. I’ve stepped up to Wage Hope at PurpleStride, the walk to end pancreatic cancer in my grandparent's honor.
