Message from Jeff, Kathleen and Gabe: 

"Thanks for participating and donating. Jeff was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in June 2024 following persistent GI symptoms and pancreatitis a few years earlier. The disease had progressed to a point of needing to start chemo therapy as soon as possible. Following months of chemo therapy the tumor was able to be removed by surgery (whipple), which required recovery before a second round of chemo therapy that ended in March 2025. Fortunately, the tests show no sign of cancer. We are blessed to have been able to have the support of family, friends, colleagues, and an amazing medical team. The doctors, nurses and administratos at St John's in Santa Monica have helped us through an amazingly tough time. Understanding the disease versus the perceptions have been enormously helpful in this process. While we know recurrence levels are high, we are hopeful that the disease will not return. Pushing the technology forward to allow for new vaccines, surgical techniques and adaptations to therapy and lifestyle changes will help increase longevity for people suffering from this disease, The idea of this walk on its own increases awareness. So many people do not know the indicators of cancer let alone those of elusive cancers like pancreatic and other GI related cancers.
