In 2022, my world was shattered when my husband, Kit, was diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer. I couldn’t believe that after losing my mother to it in 2013, fate would be so cruel as to have it take my husband. I stayed positive, for Kit and for me. I was determined that he would beat the odds and be one of the few survivors. Kit started treatment within a few short weeks and was, frankly, doing phenomenal. He researched and reached out to many people including other patients, survivors, physicians and support groups. Eventually, he had surgery. Then, we learned in May, 2023, the cancer had spread to his peritoneum. He fought as long as he could but, eventually, the effects of the cancer became more than he could tolerate. 

Pancreatic cancer is horrific, aggressive and can take a person’s life in what feels like an instant. My own mother survived a short 11 days after her diagnosis. 

PanCan is a wonderful organization for patients, caregivers, or anyone impacted by pancreatic cancer. Please help me help others by supporting my team at the ultimate walk to end pancreatic cancer, PanCAN PurpleStride, on Saturday, April 26, 2025.

PurpleStride participants raise money to fund vital research that can bring new treatment options to patients; free, personalized, one-to-one support through PanCAN Patient Services; and more.

On Saturday, April 25, 2026, at nearly 60 events across the country, pancreatic cancer survivors, families, caregivers, researchers and supporters will join together and walk to honor everyone affected by the disease.

PurpleStride is PanCAN’s biggest community event of the year, raising money to fight pancreatic cancer on all fronts — through research, clinical initiatives, patient services, advocacy and nationwide volunteer support. Learn more.
