2026 PanCAN PurpleStride - 11th Year the Johnson BEAR team has particpated

In October of 2014 my husband, Barry Johnson (Bear) was diagnosed with Stage 2B Pancreatic Cancer. The result of decades of being a volunteer fire fighter & EMS before the 1st Lavendar Report on FF Cancer, before washers and dryers in the 'house' to wash gear after every fire and spare gear just in case.  He/ We fought PC for 30 months with the support of family, friends, and the incredible team at The Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center.
April 25, 2015 he died, on his best friends birthday and the birthday of the father- in-law to his daughter - someone he never got to meet.
As the survivor caretakers and extended family & friends, we "STRIDE" with some walkers and some runners and now some in strollers.  We also support the Maryland Firefighters Cancer Support Network & Committee to be sure this generation of men and women know the risks, take the precautions, and have regular screening.

We love you Bear and will always Wage Hope.

About PanCAN PurpleStride

Local action. Nationwide impact. This is PanCAN PurpleStride, the ultimate walk to end pancreatic cancer.

On Saturday, April 25, 2026, at nearly 60 events across the country, pancreatic cancer survivors, families, caregivers, researchers and supporters will join together and walk to honor everyone affected by the disease.
