Grief- it never really goes away… the years go by and they say “time heals all wounds,” but I’m left with scars. They’re reminders of mom and dad, and not a day goes by I don’t think of them. The grief is heavy, and I am stronger to carry it longer, but the weight sometimes is too much and I crumble and have to start all over again. Oh, how I wish their battles with cancer had different outcomes, because then maybe my battles here wouldn’t be so hard without them. 

But then, I see them in the sunsets, and rain showers, especially in the rainbows that follow the storms. I see them in the butterflies or fireworks that spark memories of joy. I see them in my daughter’s eyes and her mature sense of humor- which they would have loved. And I know they’re still here, just in a different way. 

Pancreatic Cancer made me an orphan- but as a child of God- I’m never alone. My faith keeps me forging forward in the great race of life, standing on the shoulders of giants who laid the foundation. May I make them proud and may they watch over me always until I see them again in heaven.

Local action. Nationwide impact. This is PanCAN PurpleStride, the ultimate walk to end pancreatic cancer.

On Saturday, April 25, 2026, at nearly 60 events across the country, pancreatic cancer survivors, families, caregivers, researchers and supporters will join together and walk to honor everyone affected by the disease.

PurpleStride is PanCAN’s biggest community event of the year, raising money to fight pancreatic cancer on all fronts — through research, clinical initiatives, patient services, advocacy and nationwide volunteer support. Learn more.
