Once again, my family and I are raising money for PurpleStride, an event which is taking place this year on April 25, 2026 to support the important and valuable work that Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) has done to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer and, in particular, to promote screening and early detection.

I am a beneficiary of that advocacy.  In my case, I was very fortunate to have a doctor who, after reviewing my family's history and genetic profile, recommended that I get an abdominal MRI scan.  The scan revealed a very small tumor in the tail of my pancreas.  Thanks to the screening that led to early detection, my doctors were able to surgically remove the tumor before it could begin to spread, and I am as good as new.

For our family, taking part in PurpleStride provides us with the chance to pay forward the lifesaving work carried out by PanCAN every day, so that others can get the screening they need to detect and defeat the world's deadliest major cancer.  This is our fifth time participating and, during that time, the five year survival rate for pancreatic cancer has increased from 10% to 13%, which sounds modest but in fact equals more than one thousand lives saved.  Last year, thanks to the generosity of our friends and family, we raised more than $100,000 and our goal this year is to meet or exceed that amount.
