2026 will mark the 14th year since we lost Tyler Noesen.
?Every Day with Tyler was a Gift? ? Tyler?s Mom remembers.
Tyler was a twenty-five-year-old Southern California native, Long Beach Poly High School Graduate, and U.C. Berkeley Alum diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer.
?It?s hard to be 25 years old and to think you?re able to do whatever you want, to have a lot of that taken away,? stated Tyler Noesen during a 2010 interview with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. He had ?to focus on really just surviving.?
In 2006, when Tyler was diagnosed, the 5-year relative survival rate for patients diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer was only 4%. This means that he had a 96% chance of dying from this horrific disease within 5 years.
When Tyler heard the statistics, he asked his mom what she thought; she told him?
?I think you?re one of the luckiest people that I have ever known. Let?s continue to go forward and hope the luck will last.?
His luck would run out after a 5 ½ year battle against the 3rd Toughest Cancer in the United States!
Tyler Noesen was 30 years old when he passed away on January 8, 2012.
?I think in a lot of ways, the struggles and the hard times of our lives really define our lives,? Tyler said in that 2010 interview. ?It?s only when you?re challenged that you really rise to be more than yourself!?
?I knew that I wasn?t a statistic!? Tyler continued, ?Once you?ve been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer or you know somebody that?s been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer you almost immediately want to know ?what can I do???
Together, over the years, #TeamTyler has raised thousands of dollars to Continue Tyler?s Fight Against Pancreatic Cancer by forming teams in Charlotte, Los Angeles, Orange County, Raleigh, Washington, D.C., and here in San Diego!
Because of Tyler?s challenge to ?RISE TO BE MORE THAN YOURSELF? and to ensure that he?s "NOT JUST A ?STATISTIC," #TeamTyler has taken Tyler?s challenge of ?WHAT CAN I DO??
Because of our participation and fundraising efforts in PurpleStride over the years, #TeamTyler has helped increase the 5-year survival rate to 13% by investing over $235 million in pancreatic cancer research.
