Sisters of Sparkling Light 009 | PanCAN PurpleStride 2026
Sisters of Sparkling Light 009, a subordinate chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, is proud to walk together in the 2026 PanCAN PurpleStride—the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s largest community fundraising event of the year.
We walk as sisters, as a chapter, and with purpose—in honor of Vernice Hayes (Treasurer) and Donnice Brown (Worthy Matron), biological sisters united in remembrance of their father, Donald Brown, who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer nine years ago.
Donald Brown, a Dallas native, was a well-known entrepreneur and community figure, recognized for his restaurants, including Donald Brown Chicken and several others. He was also known for his service and leadership, including his role as Treasurer for Councilman Dawayne Galloway. His legacy of hard work, generosity, and community impact continues to inspire the steps we take today.
PurpleStride brings together survivors, caregivers, families, and supporters to raise awareness, fund life-saving research, and ensure patients and families continue to receive free resources and support. While pancreatic cancer remains one of the deadliest cancers, hope grows when we walk together.
✨ Our greatest hope is that you’ll join us.
Registration is free, and everyone who raises or self-donates $100 or more will receive an official PanCAN PurpleStride T-shirt. Walking alongside us is a powerful way to honor loved ones, stand in sisterhood, and show support for those affected by pancreatic cancer.
If you’re unable to walk, a donation of any amount helps us reach our $1,000 team goal and supports critical research, advocacy, and patient care. Sharing our team page is also a meaningful way to help spread awareness.
From the hearts of our Sisters, thank you for standing with us, walking with us, and helping us shine a light of hope for all those affected by pancreatic cancer.
In sisterhood and service,
Sisters of Sparkling Light 009
