Why I Walk

In August, it'll be 12 years since Mom passed away. While it does get a little easier each year, it's still sad and it still sucks. There are so many things I wish I could talk to her about and experiences that I could share with her. However, her life lessons and spirit will always live on...


One could tell that she could find the good in most things and enjoy life to the fullest. There was always some fiber of her being that believed that she would overcome this hurdle; we were also hoping and praying for the very same outcome. Even the last time I saw Mom, when she smiled she could still light up a room.


However, it was that positive attitude (and probably sheer stubbornness and strength) that helped Mom defy the odds. Mom fought this disease with more grace, courage, determination, and positivity anyone could have imagined. In the future, I can only hope to face any adversity the same as she did.

I’m taking steps at the ultimate walk to end pancreatic cancer, PanCAN PurpleStride, on Saturday, April 26, 2025. PurpleStride participants raise money to fund vital research that can bring new treatment options to patients; free, personalized, one-to-one support through PanCAN Patient Services; and more. It's the best way to make the biggest impact on the lives of pancreatic cancer patients.

About PanCAN PurpleStride

Local action. Nationwide impact. This is PanCAN PurpleStride, the ultimate walk to end pancreatic cancer.

On Saturday, April 26, 2025, at nearly 60 events across the country, pancreatic cancer survivors, families, caregivers, researchers and supporters will join together and walk to honor everyone affected by the disease.

PurpleStride is PanCAN's signature community celebration, raising money to fight pancreatic cancer on all fronts — through research, clinical initiatives, patient services, advocacy and nationwide volunteer support. Learn more.
