Join Me in Honoring Rita's and Janice's Lives

'United 2 Honor' was formed in advance of PurpleStride KC 2023, to honor the lives of Rita Miller and Janice Panis, who passed away of pancreatic cancer in 2012 and 2022, respectively.  The Miller and Panis families are united through the marriage of Rita's and my son, Kris and Janice and Tom's daughter, Christina.


'Team Momma Miller,' a 13-time PurpleStride KC "Passion Team," has steadfastly celebrated Rita's life since 2012.


The Panis family's 'One Strong Mom' team celebrated Janice's life for the past three years and, given her recent passing, was poised to honor her memory for the first time in 2023.


The two teams decided the best way to honor the extraordinary lives of their beloved wives, mothers, and grandmothers was to unite the two teams in solidarity, focused on the common goal of ending the scourge of pancreatic cancer once and for all.


Through the efforts of PANCAN, progress is being made.  When Rita passed in 2012, the pancreatic cancer 5-year survival rate was less than 4%, today it stands at 12%; they said that couldn't be done. They also said the Recalcitrant Cancer Action Act stood zero (0%) percent chance of getting through Congress; today it's the law of the land.


Together we can develop the much needed early detection methods and extend a higher quality of life to those afflicted with pancreatic cancer.  We are winning, but the battle is far from over.  With your help we can and will keep other families from experiencing the devastating loss of their loved ones.

Local action. Nationwide impact. This is PanCAN PurpleStride, the ultimate walk to end pancreatic cancer.

On Saturday, April 27, 2024, at nearly 60 events across the country, pancreatic cancer survivors, families, caregivers, researchers and supporters will join together and walk to honor everyone affected by the disease.

PurpleStride is PanCAN's signature community celebration, raising money to fight pancreatic cancer on all fronts — through research, clinical initiatives, patient services, advocacy and nationwide volunteer support. Learn more.
