I'm raising money in support of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network by participating in the 2023 CT PurpleStride to be held APRIL 29, 2023 at Busnell Park in Hartford near the Carosel.

 

On Feb 14th, 2013, our lives changed forever when Michael was diagnosed with Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer.  With love and support of family and friends Michael began the fight of his life.

Being Stage IV, surgery was not an option.  Over the next three years he received two different chemotherapy regimens and radiation.  He beat the odds of the original prognosis of 6 to 9 months by responding to treatment. He was a survivor for 3 years and 3 months.

Michael had been an Eagle Scout in his youth and served as a Special Forces (Green Beret) combat Medic in Vietnam.  He met this disease with his innate determination, stamina and faith.  He completed and self published his book of the first 25 years of his life in November 2013, leaving his family a legacy for the next generation.

"Mike's Chemo Sabe's" 1st Purple Stride 5K Walk Run was June 2014.  Michael had been asked to cut the starting ribbon.  He completed the entire 5k, half of it was uphill.  In 2015 he again participated in the CT's annual Purple Stride.  He completed the walk despite having chemo 2 days before.  He was the  last person to cross the finish line cheered on by everyone at the event.  It was the ultimate example of never giving up and "staying the course."

Sadly we lost this devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother & friend to Pancreatic Cancer May 11, 2016.
