10 YEARS!!!

I am a 10 year survivor of Pancreatic Cancer.  When I was diagnosed the 5 year survival rate was 6%. Today that rate is 13%. 

Pancreatic Cancer is still the lowest survival rate of any cancer. 

May 2014 - I was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer.

June 2014 - I began chemo at Mission Cancer and Blood on my 52nd Birthday.

August 2014 - My husband and I traveled to MD Anderson for a 2-day consultation with a surgeon on the Whipple surgery. During that consultation an opening occurred, and I was scheduled 2 days later. 

In 10 years I have met many strong pancreatic cancer warriors and families. But, in the 10 years, too many are no longer with us. I will continue to #wagehope and walk and advocate for more funding and research and resources for those affected and those who will be diagnosed.

Today I am the Patient/Caregiver Coordinator for PanCan.org for the state of Iowa. I will use my voice and encouragement and tell others my story. You are welcome to share my story, too. PLEASE DO!!  Or if you meet someone, in your state, direct them to PanCan.org  They sure helped us!!

 PanCAN PurpleStride is TOMORROW- Saturday, April 27, 2024. In every state, the same day. If you're in Iowa, we're walking at Raccoon River Park in West Des Moines, IA. 9am​

PurpleStride participants raise money to fund vital research that can bring new treatment options to patients; free, personalized, one-to-one support through PanCAN Patient Services; and more.
