Thank you for supporting my PanCAN PurpleStride fundraiser

I want to make the biggest impact on the lives of pancreatic cancer patients – and ask your help.

I'm not sure any of us who worked under the leadership of Jim Young were unmoved by his diagnosis or uninspired by his tenacity. "If anyone can beat it," we'd say to each other, "he can." But pancreatic cancer is swift and deadly, even when it's caught early. Organizations like the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network raise money to extend lives and improve quality of life through research and patient care.

My beloved Aunt Silvana was a breast cancer survivor and a strong source of support during my own cancer treatment and recovery. When her cancer returned, she knew it was terminal. It seemed like adding insult to injury for her to also develop pancreatic cancer, but she did. Like Jim Young, my aunt was in peak physical condition when she got sick. She was a runner and mountain climber and an absolutely lovely person. She died before getting to meet her first grandchild. I know how much I relied on my mom when my children were young, heck -- I still do. I wish I could prevent all of the cruelties that cancer brings to families. At the very least, I can walk and fundraise. 

PurpleStride participants raise money to fund vital research that can bring new treatment options to patients; free, personalized, one-to-one support through PanCAN Patient Services; and more.

About PanCAN PurpleStride

Local action. Nationwide impact. This is PanCAN PurpleStride, the ultimate walk to end pancreatic cancer.

On Saturday, April 27, 2024, at nearly 60 events across the country, pancreatic cancer survivors, families, caregivers, researchers and supporters will join together and walk to honor everyone affected by the disease.

PurpleStride is PanCAN's signature community celebration, raising money to fight pancreatic cancer on all fronts — through research, clinical initiatives, patient services, advocacy and nationwide volunteer support. Learn more.
