Welcome to My Personal Page

Since 2016, I have been raising money in support of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) by participating in PurpleStride San Diego.  

I walk in honor and memory of my dad, David Caraska, who passed away from pancreatic cancer at age 62 on Feb. 7, 2015, just one year, eight months and seven days from his diagnosis. Our team name, Steely Dave, is in honor of my dad's love of the band Steely Dan and an homage to his fantasy football team name of the same name. I miss him dearly, and want to do all that I can to help support research efforts for early detection and treatment so that others do not have to suffer what he went through, and other families don't have to experience the devastating loss that my family and I have.

I also walk in honor of my friend Michelle Butler's dad, David Butler, who is now a six-year and counting survivor of pancreatic cancer, thanks to the expert resources and vital support that PanCAN provides.

Pancreatic cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S., and the cancer with the lowest survival rate (five-year survival rate is 12%).

It is estimated that more than 64,000 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the U.S. in 2023, and an estimated 50,550 people will die from this disease this year. You can help change these statistics.

About PanCAN PurpleStride

Local action. Nationwide impact. This is PanCAN PurpleStride, the ultimate walk to end pancreatic cancer.

On Saturday, April 27, 2024, at nearly 60 events across the country, pancreatic cancer survivors, families, caregivers, researchers and supporters will join together and walk to honor everyone affected by the disease.

PurpleStride is PanCAN's signature community celebration, raising money to fight pancreatic cancer on all fronts — through research, clinical initiatives, patient services, advocacy and nationwide volunteer support. Learn more.
