16 years ago, February 29,2008. It's a day I would like to forget, but I know I never will. That day I lost my biggest fan, greatest supporter, my best friend and my hero. I lost my mom to pancreatic cancer 13 months after she was diagnosed. My husband lost his best friend Butchy in 2020 after only several months of being diagnosis with pancreatic cancer. Butchy had just retired a few months prior. 2 lives lost to soon and who’s presence is missed daily by their families and friends.

Pancreatic cancer is a leading cause of cancer death largely because there are no detection tools to diagnose the disease in its early stages when surgical removal of the tumor is still possible.


Pancreatic cancer is one of the few cancers for which survival has not improved substantially over nearly 40 years.


Pancreatic cancer is the 3rd leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States surpassing breast cancer.

I stride to raise awareness and money to find a cure. I stride so families won’t have another empty seat at their get togethers. I stride to honor my mother and Butchy’s memory.

On Saturday, April 26, 2025, at nearly 60 events across the country, pancreatic cancer survivors, families, caregivers, researchers and supporters will join together and walk to honor everyone affected by the disease.

PurpleStride is PanCAN's signature community celebration, raising money to fight pancreatic cancer on all fronts — through research, clinical initiatives, patient services, advocacy and nationwide volunteer support. Learn more.
