Walk For Chuck

WE ARE BACK TO WALKING IN PERSON THIS YEAR!

Please join us Saturday, April 30, 2022 for our FOURTEENTH annual Chicago Purplestride Walk at Soldier Field to raise money and awareness for pancreatic cancer.  14 years, WOW!  As always, I will be hosting a luncheon directly after to "break bread" and catch up with you.  It's been a long 2 years. Details to follow...**You do not have to walk or donate to come for lunch**

Why are we still doing this?

Pancreatic cancer is the 3RD deadliest cancer and the 11TH most diagnosed cancer.  It is not a rare cancer.  Most people still think it is rare.  62,000 Americans will be diagnosed this year.  That’s 169 people every single day…

  1.  The 5 year survival rate was 4% when we started.  It is now 11%.  Still very low, but that’s 4340 more people alive this year because of our efforts.  Our goal is 20% by 2030.
  2. They have learned early onset diabetes is an early symptom.
  3. In 1999, there were only a handful of scientists working on pancreatic cancer research.  Today, there are over 200 scientists working diligently for early detection and a cure.
  4. In 1999, Federal funding was only $17 million.  In 2018, Federal funding was over $182 million.  That’s an increase of 970%!  More money, more research!
  5. There is now an early detection blood test for high risk individuals.  Not perfect, but it’s a start.
  6. In 2013, We were successful in getting the Recalcitrant Cancer Act signed into law making pancreatic cancer a national priority.

ALL OF THIS BECAUSE OF YOUR FUNDRAISING AND RAISING AWARENESS EFFORTS!

CHUCK...On a personal note, it’s 13 years he has missed. 13 years he missed birthdays, high school graduations, college graduations, boys grown into young men, job placements, job promotions, babies born(nephews), family weddings, Cubs World Series, a new fur baby, bucket list vacations, and most recently, a son’s engagement. 13 years of missing…all because of this horrid disease.  His mother Lori passed in 2016 from pancreatic cancer also. His cousin Johnny passed from this , our friends Gus and Richard, the list goes on and on…We want to help others not miss out.

Last year we raised over $25,000!  We are hoping to break that record this year.  Your generosity is so heartfelt and appreciated. Your continued support says a lot about Chuck and about you. As they say," it takes a village", and I'm so blessed you are in mine.

To our *Plus One, We love you, We miss you, and we will NEVER forget you.

XOXO
