Thank you for reading my personal message

I am incredibly grateful for the past support of those who have donated to PanCAN via the Walk and Team Yvette Kaplan, and would greatly appreciate any donation small ($5) or big you are able to make.

My Family
I named the team after my Mother, because she had an enormous influence on my life.  She raised me by herself, after my Father died of pancreatic cancer (yes, both parents), when I was 3 years old.

She was involved in fundraising, organizing, and volunteering for cancer charities ever since I could remember.  With my Mom’s support, I participated in my first ACS fundraiser at age 11.

In 2015 my Mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Having already survived breast cancer for 21 years, my Mother vowed to fight and survive for as long as there were viable treatment options.  We credit a trial study with prolonging her life for 25 months. I spent hundreds of days with her over that time.  Near the end, she held out hope for an immunotherapy trial.

Finding a cure for pancreatic cancer is personal.

How we can make a difference

The 5-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer is only 11% (this is an improvement -- the survival rate in 2017 was 8%), making p.c. the THIRD leading cause of cancer-related death (projected to move into SECOND place before 2030).

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network works against p.c., while supporting patients and survivors:

  • funding research and advocate for increased government research
  • supporting patients, caregivers, and families with their free "Patient Central" service
  • hosting a “Clinical Trial Finder” database at PanCAN.org
  • raising funds and awareness with PurpleStride Walks
  • educating the public about symptoms (most p.c. is discovered by accident, but if caught early enough intervention often makes a difference in survivability)

Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of all major cancers, at just 11%. This deadly disease has stolen our best and our brightest, but it can’t take away our determination.

I’ve stepped up to Wage Hope at PurpleStride, the walk to end pancreatic cancer. Will you help me rewrite the future of this disease by donating today?

Every dollar that you give ensures that the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network can continue working to improve outcomes for pancreatic cancer patients.

Purple ribbons aren’t enough. Please join me in the fight today.
