I lost the love of my life, Eddie Hamner, to pancreatic cancer in January of 2018. I can’t believe he’s been gone 6 years. My thanks to everyone that has joined me in donating and/or walked with Hamner's Superheroes from 2018-2023 at Purple Stride in San Antonio. 

I'm happy to report that Purple Stride San Antonio 2024 will be held on Saturday,  April 27, 2024 at the Star Soccer Complex. The San Antonio 2024 PanCAN event will be held along with 58 other PanCAN events across the county - all on the same day!  I will walk in honor of Eddie and I hope some of you can join me. 

Pancreatic cancer is the 3rd leading cause of cancer related deaths in the US and has the lowest 5 year survival rate of all major cancers, at just 13%. There is currently no early detection method for this cancer so when it strikes - it's sudden and swift. 

I've stepped up to Wage Hope at PurpleStride, the walk to end pancreatic cancer so others won't experience the pain that Eddie suffered and the heartache that our family has endured.

There has been some positive news in pancreatic cancer research this year.  In February, the FDA approved a new first line treatment option for metastatic pancreatic cancer.  This is the first time in more than a decade the FDA has approved a new first line treatment.  So there is hope.  But only if we keep supporting the research.
