Welcome to My Personal Page
I lost my father and best buddy, Joe Drolett on June 2nd 2019 to pancreatic cancer. He lived a great life, and left behind a wife of 55 years, 4 children, 5 adoring grandchildren, 2 brothers, a great big extended family, and more friends than could ever be counted. We all were so grateful for the time we had but, of course, we all wanted more time.
Dad fought hard for over 2 years to battle this disease, but it was relentless. Dad, however, fought the battle with such grace and optimism. He smiled and encouraged us the whole time. He was and is my hero.
When Dad was first diagnosed, we did not know what to do or where to turn. With the help of some good friends, we found a great surgeon and medial team. But we still needed more info and support. My sister discovered PanCan. Their amazing team helped answer questions about trials available, they paired Dad with survivor so Dad had someone to talk to, and they answered all kinds of questions like "how do we help Dad get his appetite back" or tricks to gaining weight. Later, we learned of the great work they are doing raising awareness and funding to battle this disease.
This is my third year participating in Purple Stride. Since Dad's diagnosis, I've become acutely aware of how prevalent this cancer is, and how it impacts the young and old. In addition to my Dad, I've learned about other good friends who have fought or are fighting this battle. Friends who have lost love ones. Friends with family currently fighting. It's brutal. We must find a cure.
Currently, pancreatic cancer is the worlds toughest cancer with a five year survival rate of just 10%, and the third leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. This deadly disease has stolen our best and our brightest, but it can’t take away our determination.
I invite you to please donate and/or walk virtually with me this year!!
I’ve stepped up to Wage Hope at PurpleStride, the walk to end pancreatic cancer. Will you help me rewrite the future of this disease by making a donation today?
