In 2008 we lost my brother, Eddie to pancreatic cancer.  He was only 43 years old. In 2006 Eddie started with stomach pains and wasn't able to hold down any food.  It wasn't until April of 2007 that he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.  Surgery wasn't an option because his tumor was wrapped around the major artery going into the pancreas.  At that time, we could find nothing on the internet about pancreatic cancer.  No clinical trials, no specialists - nothing.  He went to major cancer centers and hospitals, where doctors actually told him to go home and get his life in order.  He fought hard for another 10 months before cancer took him.  Our family hasn't been the same since.

Then in 2017 pancreatic cancer struck again. This time it was my husbands sister Ana. She lost her battle after a short 5 months. She was only 58. Both Eddie and Ana are missed every day.

I've seen the need for research, but more importantly, there is a need to have important information available to anyone facing a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer personally, or for a family member. The work the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network does is amazing and focuses on research funding and education.   

Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of all major cancers, at just 9%. This deadly disease has stolen our best and our brightest, but it can’t take away our determination.
