Barrys Team was started after Barry was diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer in 2018. Barry is a 7 year survivor!

Testing found that Barry had the BRCA 2 mutation, a mutation common to the Ashkenazi Community, which greatly increased his chances of developing pancreatic cancer and other cancers.   One in forty people in the ashkenazi community will test positive for the BRCA mutation. Many in our family have since tested positive, putting them all at an increased risk for pancreatic cancer.  Surgery and chemo were successful, but not enough to stop the cancer!    In the fall of 2021 Barry became patient 1 of a phase 1 study in the fight against pancreatic cancer. More chemo, stem cell transplants, a long recovery!  Barry is a survivor due to the new testing and treatments available.  His participation in this research is for the future of all diagnosed with this awful disease.
