Join me and Greg's Gang in the fight against pancreatic cancer - walk or contribute today!
A note from Greg:
It has been more than three years since my pancreatic cancer diagnosis. In this time, the physical effects of treating the malady have proven no more problematic than coping with its effect on the psyche. Facing down your killer is a bit uncomfortable. Statistics was never my strong suit, but I think somewhere around 85% of the Pancreatic Cancer Class of 2015 have succumbed to the disease. So in some eyes, I have been very lucky - but there is much more than luck required. It takes tenacity, fortitude, endurance, and optimism. Most important is your healthcare advocate, my good fortune has been my wife who is relentless in trying to save my life. I have a family that works to help me, listens to me, and lifts my spirits, as a certain degree of levity is required. I have been under the care of excellent physicians in whom I have developed faith. It is a known fact that patients with confidence in their physicians do much better than those who do not.
The five-year survival rate has increased three percentage points since 2014 and is now 9 percent. Those three percentage points represent approximately 1,600 mothers, daughters, fathers, sons, sisters, brothers, colleagues and friends, and me!
The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PANCAN) is dedicated to fighting pancreatic cancer and improving patient outcomes through research, clinical initiatives, patient services, and advocacy. Since the first walk in 2008, PurpleStride has been PANCAN's most powerful vehicle for fundraising and awareness. Each year, in more than 50 PurpleStride events across the country, survivors, families, researchers, caregivers, and others touched by pancreatic cancer come together to rewrite the future.
Join us in raising funds and awareness this year for PurpleStride Charlotte 2018. Greg's Gang will be walking with the goal of raising $5,000. Let's WAGE HOPE together - join us in the fight today!
