This year, I’m teaming up with my good friend Brandon Fisher to raise money for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network through PanCAN PurpleStride — and we’re doing it in honor of two incredibly special people: my mom and Brandon’s Uncle Mark.

Pancreatic cancer is what brought Brandon and me together. We didn’t know each other well before volunteering as course moderators at the last PanCAN event, but we quickly bonded over the shared experience of losing loved ones to this disease. That day sparked a meaningful friendship rooted in a shared mission: honoring their memory and continuing the fight.

My mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2018. Many of you may know her story — her five-year battle was nothing short of extraordinary. She faced every challenge with strength, humor, and compassion. When she passed away in September 2023, the loss was — and continues to be — deeply felt every single day.

Even during her battle, my mom never stopped moving forward. She was a lifelong runner, completing more than 70 marathons and dedicating countless hours to raising money for causes she believed in — especially the fight against pancreatic cancer. PurpleStride brings together two of her greatest passions: running and giving back. It’s a perfect way to carry her legacy forward.

Brandon’s uncle, Mark Fisher, was a truly remarkable man — the kind of person who made you feel like a lifelong friend within minutes. Mark had a huge heart, a contagious energy, and a zest for life that continues to inspire Brandon daily. Their bond was incredibly strong, and Brandon is honored to walk, run, and fight in his uncle’s name.

This fundraiser is our way of continuing their legacy — honoring their strength, passion, and dedication to others — and doing our part to push progress forward for everyone still fighting this disease.
