Help END pancreatic cancer

Team Kichel Cancer's Butt is back for year 2!

Welcome to my page. I created this team to honor my feisty, loving, would give you the coat off her back - and food from her fridge. Lots of food. Seriously, did you get enough to eat? - grandmother Ruth Abzug. AKA Baubie Ruth.

She was one of the people I adored most in this world and I spent a large chunk of my youth in her presence. My mother passed away from cancer when I was young, and my made sure I was always well taken care of. Ruth herself carted me along as her little sidekick most everywhere. I have plenty of sweet stories to share of our adventures on request any time. Suffice it to say I spent a lot more time at Talbots than the average 7-year-old. Which made me incredibly lucky, because it was time I shared with her.

Ruth passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2008. A few years later, my uncle gathered a group of us to go to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network's (PANCAN) PurpleLight event. Two years ago I decided to become more involved with PANCAN and volunteered for their largest event, the PurpleStride 5K. Last year, four of us joined together on a team to stride, and I was so thankful for all of the support from family and friends. This year, I am proud to have an even bigger team to run/walk in virtual event and raise money to honor my grandmother.

About pancreatic cancer: Pancreatic cancer has a five-year survival rate of 10%, and is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S. Research, clinical trials, and public awareness are a few of the ways to increase the survival rate of this disease. Your donation makes a difference.

A note on our team name: Ruth was a caterer, and one of the best desserts she made was kichel - these light, twisty, thin cookies with sugar sprinkled on top. The actual pronunciation of this Yiddish word has a gutteral ch noise in the middle, but is sometimes pronounced as KICK-EL. So we're Kich(el)ing cancer's butt with this fundraiser. Please join us in fighting pancreatic cancer with either a donation or running/walking as part of our team.
