In honor of jim poole "JIMBO"

Pancreatic Cancer changed our family in 2018.  My Dad was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in September 2018 and passed away in October 2018 just a month before his 60th birthday.  He was an awesome Dad and Grandpa.  

I can still remember the helpless feeling of being in the doctor's office when they delivered the diagnosis.  The reality quickly set in that there is no cure for pancreatic cancer which meant death was certain and it was a matter of when, not if.  

At the time of his death he had four grandchildren ages 14, 4, 2, and 1.  He adored every one of them.  Today that number has grown to six.  

In addition to one day finding a cure, one of the missions of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is to double the 5 year survival rate from 10% to 20% by 2030.  For someone who hasn't experienced the horrible effects of pancreatic cancer, 5 years might not sound like much.  However, I think about my Dad and what I wouldn't give for him to be able to experience 5 more years of precious time with his family.  I encourage everyone to donate to this great organization to help raise awareness, fund research, and continue to help fight against this horrible disease.

On Saturday, April 27, 2024, at nearly 60 events across the country, pancreatic cancer survivors, families, caregivers, researchers and supporters will join together and walk to honor everyone affected by the disease.

PurpleStride is PanCAN's signature community celebration, raising money to fight pancreatic cancer on all fronts — through research, clinical initiatives, patient services, advocacy and nationwide volunteer support. Learn more.
