Welcome to PurpleStride Personal Fundraising Page, for Linda Wood

Dear friends and family:

As you may know, I was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in February 2020.  Pancreatic cancer is aggressive, but so am I, and I am in the fight of my life. I am so lucky to have a great family, a great job (Broward College), a great Dr. and hospital (UM Sylvester), and a great support group to help me get through the chemo and other related treatments..  Many are not as fortunate as me.

When I was first diagnosed, I was given 2-6 months to live.  That left me and my spouse Kate terrified, confused and wondering where we can turn.   I was directed to Pancan as a way to learn more about my tumor, access oncologists that specialize in this disease, and learn about clinical trials, nutrition, and how to stay centered while we adjust to a new way of life (which has been very difficult at times)

As a result, through Pancan I found a wonderful Dr. at the University of Miami's Sylvester Cancer Center, Dr. Nkiruka Ezenwajiaku or Dr. NK as everyone calls her.  She has been my gift from GOD and has gone above and beyond for me with her support and kindness, and guess what, I am responding to chemo.  As of this writing, I have had 41 chemos, 2 radiations and life changing surgery on my right leg.  My resolve to fight is second to none, and my Dr. told me I am her strongest patient.  Kate has been my rock, and she is a wonderful caregiver, especially when the chemo leaves me sick and depleted (I call them the dark days).   She goes through her own struggles, but has never wavered from her commitment to fight with me.

However pancreatic cancer does not stop or slow down, and neither does Pancan.  Pancan funds more grants to help develop new treatments and someday a cure for this disease. This disease does not discriminate, and as you know it has taken the lives of some famous people including Congressman John Lewis, Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Jeopardy host, Alex Trebek.

We believe in paying it forward, so we are asking for your support.

Cancer has shown us how kind, caring and supportive people can be.  We are participating in PanCAN’s PurpleStride, a year-round national movement that funds lifechanging programs and services for pancreatic cancer patients and their families.

Every dollar you give means more patients can benefit from PanCAN’s free, one-on-one support, personalized information, service and resources that can make a real difference in their lives.

We are  respectfully asking you to please make a gift of any size to get me one step closer to giving HOPE. Our real goal is to help Pancan research find a CURE, and together we can.  In the meantime, I will continue to fight with Kate by my side.

This fight is a mental game, and we need the support more now than ever.  Pancan has been a great resource for us, and we would appreciate any support that you can give.

Thank you for your support.
