Let's walk for John Donne!

On November 23, 2019, pancreatic cancer stole my father from his family. John Donne was not only a wonderful father, he was also a beloved grandfather, husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend. Only 69 years old, my Dad was a health nut - fish, brown rice, tennis, canoeing, cross country skiing - all the things I force myself to do in the name of health he actually enjoyed (ok I do like fish but I don't do any of those sports). Which makes his passing even more infuriating. 

Pancreatic cancer is an insidious disease, and the deadliest major cancer with a five-year survival rate of only 11%. My Dad lived three years following his diagnosis, making us one of the luckier families.

I’m participating in PanCAN’s PurpleStride, a year-round national movement that funds life-changing programs and services for pancreatic cancer patients and their families. I'd love for anyone and everyone to join my team - it will be a fun, laid back day spent in the springtime sun (I hope) with cool people (my friends). And drinks to follow, of course!

P.S. For anyone wondering about the team name, Robin Hood: Men in Tights was one of John's favorite movies - I think Liz and I have seen it 600+ times.

Local action. Nationwide impact. This is PanCAN PurpleStride, the ultimate walk to end pancreatic cancer.

On Saturday, April 27, 2024, at nearly 60 events across the country, pancreatic cancer survivors, families, caregivers, researchers and supporters will join together and walk to honor everyone affected by the disease.

PurpleStride is PanCAN's signature community celebration, raising money to fight pancreatic cancer on all fronts — through research, clinical initiatives, patient services, advocacy and nationwide volunteer support. Learn more.
