Thank you for supporting my PanCAN PurpleStride fundraiser!

As a survivor, I received better medical care and a better outcome due to the efforts of PanCAN and all of its supporters. With your assistance, I hope to help PanCAN in its work to facilitate early detection of this challenging disease. I was fortunate to have received an early diagnosis and then treatment at a PanCAN Center of Excellence, Oregon Health Sciences University, OHSU. I want to make the biggest impact on the lives of pancreatic cancer patients – and I need your help to do it!

I’m taking steps at the ultimate walk to end pancreatic cancer, PanCAN PurpleStride, on Saturday, April 27, 2024. During my treatment, I found that the best "drug" to combat the side effects of my chemotherapy was to walk, walk, and walk some more. Walking helped me physically and mentally. 

PurpleStride participants raise money to fund vital research that can bring new treatment options to patients; free, personalized, one-to-one support through PanCAN Patient Services; and more. Within days of my diagnosis my RN sister had contacted PanCAN and received valuable information about treatment centers and options. I cannot thank PanCAN enough for the support it provided. 

Here’s where you come in! I’ve set a fundraising goal of $1000.00. Any help you could provide in meeting, and then exceeding that goal, will impact the search for a cure and surviving pancreatic cancer. Last year the five year survivability rate doubled from 6% to 12%. What I did not know before my diagnosis, however, was that with early detection and treatment, survivability can be 10 or more years. Early detection appears to be the key to surviving pancreatic cancer. Unfortunately, early detection is difficult because pancreatic cancer symptoms seem insignificant until the disease has often spread. A gift of any size will help patients and families facing a pancreatic cancer diagnosis.
