I joined the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network when Mom was first diagnosed in hopes of finding the nations leading Pancreatic Cancer Oncologists. I had no idea I wouldn't even have time to get her to one of those Doctors. My Mom passed away within 3.5 weeks of finally getting a diagnosis.  Mom had been suffering for months. I took over trying to find her care when she visited me in Ohio the first week of June- I knew just by looking at her she was in a very desperate situation. She had been to her primary care physician 3 times over the span of a year before she was finally referred to a GI doctor and to have a CT scan done. Her primary lacked the knowledge about the signs and symptoms of Pancreatic or Biliary Cancer. My mother had ALL of the symptoms and ALL of the results in her blood work that would warrant further testing yet she was dismissed. My goal as an affiliate now of PanCan is to provide education to physician groups so that someone else will have time to write the letters to their grandchildren or make the videos for their family. My mother knew she had a short time but she hoped for a few months to say her goodbyes and to finally take that family trip to the Grand Canyon. I had already started planning the trip when she had multiple strokes from her cancer that was all over her entire body. Not only does Pancreatic Cancer not get the continuing education required to spot and diagnose, it also does not get the funding needed to provide it. PLEASE consider donating! On Saturday, April 27, 2024, at nearly 60 events across the country, pancreatic cancer survivors, families, caregivers, researchers and supporters will join together and walk to honor everyone affected by the disease.
