Thank you for supporting my PanCAN PurpleStride fundraiser, in honor of my Grandpa Randy Rice, who is currently WINNING his battle with pancreatic cancer! 

I want to make a change for those fighting pancreatic cancer as this hits close to home for me, with everything my Grandpa has been through. My Grandpa Rice was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in October 2020. After several rounds of chemotherapy, he became one of the lucky 15-20% who was able to have a Whipple surgery to try to remove the cancer. 3 years and 4 months later, my Grandpa is still here with us beating the odds and able to do the things he loves, like golfing and coming to my volleyball games.

In case you're not aware, the 5-year survival rate for Pancreatic Cancer is only 13%. 

With your donation, we can help PanCAN achieve their goal of reaching a 20% 5-year survival rate by 2030. To increase the survival rate, early detection is critical! As of now, about 50% of pancreatic cancer has already spread to other parts of the body by the time it is diagnosed, making it hard to treat. PanCAN's Early Detection Initiative is working to help increase the number of tumors that are detected early enough to allow more patients to be eligible for surgery before the cancer spreads. 

The PanCAN PurpleStride walk is a fundraiser to raise money for vital research that can bring new treatment options to patients, including free, personalized, one-to-one support through PanCAN Patient Services, which my family used during the initial months after Grandpa's diagnosis.
