Help Support Pancreatic Cancer Patients In Need!

Being the daughter of two oncologists had its perks. My parents worked tirelessly in the oncology department, specializing in cancer survivorship. I admired their dedication to helping others, even when it meant long hours and heartbreaking moments. They were my heroes, and I wanted to be just like them when I grew up. As I accompanied them to conferences, I became familiar with the patients they treated. Each face told a different story—some filled with hope, others with fear and uncertainty. But regardless of their circumstances, my parents treated each patient with compassion and respect. While my parents met with colleagues and discussed treatment plans, I wandered the conference rooms, stopping to chat with patients and their families. Sometimes, all it took was a friendly smile or a listening ear to brighten someone's day. Other times, I found myself lost in deep conversations, sharing stories and laughter with people I had only just met. As the years went by, I watched as my parents' patients came and went. Some fought bravely until the end, while others found solace in remission and new beginnings.


Through it all, my parents remained unwavering in their commitment to providing the best care possible. But it wasn't until I was older that I truly understood the impact of their work. Witnessing their dedication firsthand taught me the importance of empathy, resilience, and kindness. And while I have not yet chosen the same career path as my parents, their influence continues to shape the person I am today. Now, as I embark on my own journey, I carry their lessons with me wherever I go. Whether it's lending a helping hand to a stranger or offering a shoulder to cry on, I strive to make a difference in the lives of others, just like my parents taught me to do. And though the road ahead may be filled with challenges, I know that with love and compassion, anything is possible.

Local action. Nationwide impact. This is PanCAN PurpleStride, the ultimate walk to end pancreatic cancer.

On Saturday, April 27, 2024, at nearly 60 events across the country, pancreatic cancer survivors, families, caregivers, researchers and supporters will join together and walk to honor everyone affected by the disease.

PurpleStride is PanCAN's signature community celebration, raising money to fight pancreatic cancer on all fronts — through research, clinical initiatives, patient services, advocacy and nationwide volunteer support. Learn more.
