Marching on for My Husband

PurpleStride is an event that aims to raise awareness and funds for the fight against pancreatic cancer. It is organized by the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCan) and brings people together to remember those who have passed, celebrate survivors, and support efforts to combat this disease.

Our team is named in honor of my husband, Mario Ortiz. In memory of Mario’s brave and lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer, we are continuing his “Marcha” and hoping to raise funds that will support research to find early detection methods and new treatments. Mario had a strong community that supported him during his lifetime, and now we continue his fight to find new treatments and ultimately a cure. With your help, we can all work towards a day where losing loved ones to pancreatic cancer becomes a thing of the past.

We are reaching out because our team, each member deeply affected by Pancreatic Cancer, is passionate about making a difference. We've lost loved ones such as Mario, Franke Thomas, and Gerry Samudio to this disease. We march in their honor to benefit those fighting for their lives and those yet to be diagnosed.

Local action. Nationwide impact. This is PanCAN PurpleStride, the ultimate walk to end pancreatic cancer.

On Saturday, April 26, 2025, at nearly 60 events across the country, pancreatic cancer survivors, families, caregivers, researchers and supporters will join together and walk to honor everyone affected by the disease.

PurpleStride is PanCAN's signature community celebration, raising money to fight pancreatic cancer on all fronts — through research, clinical initiatives, patient services, advocacy and nationwide volunteer support. Learn more.
