As part of November being Pancreatic Cancer Awareness 2019, I thought I would take the chance and begin my TEAM MK fundraising for PurpleStride 2020.
As you know, I lost my sister, Marykate Ducharme Sawyer, at age 43 in October 2007 to pancreatic cancer. I know there is not a day that my family does not miss her immensely. Kate had a profound impact on our lives with her generous spirit, her HUGE heart, her love of being a mom, her amazing teaching skills, her quick wit, and her fantastic sense of humor.
PurpleStride is the main fundraising event, a 5K timed run or 2-mile family-friendly walk, for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. This organization works hard to provide current pancreatic cancer patients with help and resources along with funding research efforts with donations from PurpleStrides across the county.
The photo on this page is from June 2017 when my sister along with my nephew (Kate's child), my niece, and a dear friend joined my family as Team MK. At the 2019 Purplestride, I was fortunate to have a dear friend run the event and other dear friends & their families volunteering to help at the event. I am grateful for everyone's love, care, and time.
PurpleStride in Milwaukee will be held on Sunday, June X, 2020 at Miller Park, home of the Milwaukee Brewers. Same-day registration opens at X am Central time and the run/walk begins at X am Central time. We would love to add more members to Team MK, so if you would like to take part, please contact me. You can register online and register by May X, 2020 to guarantee an event T-shirt.
Since I am the PurpleStride Volunteer Chair, if you would like to volunteer for the event, that would be AMAZING! Please contact me to volunteer.
