Its that time of the year again, this is the 4th year in a row that my family has decided to participate in honoring my Mothers memory so on May 3rd, 2020, TEAM GALEGO is going to be participating in the PurpleStrides walk at Goddard Park in support of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
Our Mother, Shirley L. Galego, was the most loving, caring, forgiving person I have ever known, she was the HEART of our family. In May of 2004 our Mother lost her fight with Pancreatic Cancer.
Most of you knew our Mom through one of us kids. Our Mom was so much more than just a pancreatic cancer patient. Her life was so full and overflowing with warmth, love and laughter.
Those of you that knew her knew she was a force to be reckoned with, a champion you always wanted in your corner and a lover of our very souls. I am blessed beyond comprehension and so humbled to be her daughter.
I am coming to learn that we all leave a legacy for those who come behind us. Throughout mom’s very short battle with pancreatic cancer, the every day ordinary was peeled away to reveal the very essence of her character, her faith and her strength and I can see that she has been weaving into our lives the lessons she values most. These life lessons are a reminder that our legacy is not etched into stone but woven into the lives we touch every day.
Mom taught us many valuable lessons, and I would like to share some that have made a huge impact on my life.
First Lesson: Love your Family!! Mom always wanted us to be close and always have each other's backs! NO MATTER WHAT!!
Second Lesson: Laugh!! Mom always loved playing jokes!!! Like flipping over the prickly plastic mat when we would come downstairs first thing in the morning with our bare feet!!! Mom would crack up laughing!!! It was the funniest thing when she got you!!! Lol....
Third Lesson: Live!! Live everyday like there is no tomorrow!!!
We know Heaven has gained a jewel in mom and we know the streets are ringing with her laughter…
Her legacy here on earth now continues in us her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren!
We all miss our Mom and Grammy very much but we also know that things weren't going to improve and part of us are thankful she is at peace and without stress and pain. We were able to manage as a family because Mom brought us up to be kind and caring kids and she knew we all loved her dearly and were always there for her.
Mom to us was an extremely brave woman and never complained about what she was enduring. That was who mom was! We loved her very much and always will and we so miss her every day! We have some awesome memories!!! She will always be with us because she was such an important and happy part of our lives!! She lives on in each and every one of us in so many ways!!!
