We wear purple for Grampy!! We walk for Grampy!

In 2017, my Dad had a lobectomy to remove a tumor from his lung. Later, in the spring of 2018, during a follow up screening, a doctor noticed something suspicious going on in my Dad's pancreas and immediately began diagnosing and planning.

It was pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer has the highest mortality rate of all major cancers. For all stages combined, the 5-year relative survival rate is 10%.

Because Dad's vigilant doctors caught it early, he was able to qualify for the Whipple procedure, a gnarly and painful surgery that was his best chance of survival.

I am so grateful for the excellent care of surgeons and oncologists and technicians and nurses. Three years later, I still have my Dad and my kids still have their Grampy. There is no price you can put on that.

Grampy is still fighting, back on chemo.

That's why Chris, Sam, Naomi, and I are walking.

Our team, Barkers Rock, is participating in PanCAN's Kansas City Virtual PurpleStride, raising funding for PanCAN's free, one-on-one support, personalized information, service and resources that can make a real difference in the lives of pancreatic cancer survivors and their caregivers.

Please join our BARKERS ROCK team or donate to a team member or make a general donation to the team.
