Pancreatic cancer is currently the 3rd leading cause of U.S. cancer deaths and is expected to climb to the 2nd place spot by 2036. Of the 60,000 estimated new pancreatic cancer patients in 2021, only 20,000 are expected to live past the 5+ year survival prediction.
Kevin Shields, husband, father and Pop-Pop, was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer in March 2018 and passed away nine and a half months later. In almost 3 years since Kevin's passing, we have heard of many other loved ones who have been diagnosed, and unfortunately, lost their fight with pancreatic cancer as well.
Every year since 2018, Pop-Pop's Crew has participated in the Maryland PurpleStride fundraising events to raise awareness and funding for pancreatic cancer research. The Maryland PurpleStride and 59 other PurpleStride events across the U.S. are all occurring on one collective date in April 2022 in order to unite us all in our mission to stop this silent killer.
We do not want Kevin, Theresa, Melody, Will, Ruth, Jo and others to just become statistical numbers. Please consider donating to our team and show your support by joining with us for the PurpleStride event scheduled for Saturday April 30, 2022.
Registration is free, participation can occur wherever you live and sharing our page helps spread the word about this important cause.
We can do our part to help ensure the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network can continue their efforts to increase pancreatic cancer survival and provide tools for patients, caregivers and families. Come be a member of our "purple army" and help us live to see the day when cancer can be cured for good.
