This will be the seventh year for us to have a team in honor of Victoria Winkler, who was diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer in April of 2016.  Vicki was in a clinical trial and her tumor shrunk enough to make her a surgical candidate.  After her extensive surgery on May 1, 2018, her lymph nodes and all surrounding surgical margins were declared clear of cancer!  Vicki recovered from surgery and enjoyed several blissful months with no chemo.   At her October 2018 CT scan, she received the disappointing news that her cancer had returned.  In November 2018  she had to resume chemotherapy and had infusions every two weeks. She endured more than 50 chemo sessions with grace and grit.  But in 2019 the cancer progressed and Vicki was referred to Sarah Cannon Cancer Center in Nashville, IN.  After two unsuccessful trials there, she received hospice care at home.  On March 12, 2020 Vicki lost her valiant battle to this dreadful disease and is now our angel.  

     Throughout the four years that Vicki battled pancreatic cancer, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) served as a valuable source of information about treatment options, side effects, nutrition, etc.  During her difficult journey, Vicki kept her positive attitude, sense of humor, and relied on her strong faith.  She continues to be an inspiration to her family and friends who gather each year at PurpleStride to honor her and to raise funds so others with pancreatic cancer will have better outcomes.
