In early 2022 our family’s journey with Pancreatic Cancer began. If you have ever had the pleasure of meeting our dad, Ken Bumgarner, you know he wears many hats: husband, father, papa, son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and now survivor.

Our dad served his country and community throughout his life. First, as a Vietnam veteran where he continued his career for 29 years in the reserves. Then, as a California Highway Patrol State Traffic Officer where his career spanned over 30 years. Needless to say he was always our hero, and still is. Growing up we were lucky to have a built-in extended family within his department and in our community. If you were fortunate enough to be invited to one of our family dinners you know the amount of love he has for our mom, his wife of 43 years and us 4 kids. Now, if you joined us today for one of those it would look a little different as our family has almost tripled in size, and now includes 11 grandchildren. 

When someone has cancer, the whole family and everyone that loves them does too. We are asking for those who have had the honor of knowing our family to donate to our Purple Stride team to support our continued fight in beating this disease.

Pancreatic cancer has one of the worst prognoses for any cancer type, with a 5-year survival rate just above 10%. Currently, pancreatic cancer research only receives 2% funding from the National Cancer Institute.
