Welcome to Our PanCAN PurpleStride Team Fundraising Page!
Never Give Up, Never Surrender
Eleven years ago, in March of 2012, Ray was diagnosed with stage 4 Pancreatic cancer and given 3 1/2 months to live.
NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER, became our rallying cry.
Through the dedicated work of his doctors, and the advent of clinical trials, the
3 1/2 months turned into almost 4 years.
In the seven years since his death, Alex and I have welcomed Leyah and her family into our lives, and of course ,our yummy Penelope Rae. Pancreatic cancer prevented Ray from meeting Penny. MY GOAL IS TO DO WHATEVER I CAN TO SEE THAT NO OTHER FAMILY MISSES OUT ON THESE LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCES.
To that end,I am volunteering with Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. My focus is working with caregivers and patients, bringing them together and answering questions regarding support groups, possible clinical trials and whatever information is out there to help them.
The statistics for pancreatic patients are not good. The five year survival rate is only12%.
The success in defeating Pancreatic cancer, lies in early diagnosis through testing, developing new drugs, and advancement in gene therapy.
All of this can’t be done without research, and research costs money.
However, since Pancreatic cancer is not in the forefront of the public eye, unless a celebrity dies from it, funding is minimal. The PanCAN organization raised over 50 million last year and their goal for is $80 million annually.
One of their fundraising arms is PURPLE STRIDE, a national walk/run that I and other friends and family members, will participate in on Saturday, April 29, 2023.
I need your help to raise money for the research that needs to be done to eradicate this terrible disease.A gift of any size will be so appreciated.
Please see the information on this page on how to donate.
On April 29, we will be among thousands of people across the United States, who will be walking for themselves, for their loved ones, and for future pancreatic cancer patients.
My wish is that on that day you will think of Ray and smile.
Much love,
Maddy, Alex, Leyah, Penelope Rae, and Charlie
