Ivanna, my mom, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer with metastasis to the liver in July 2018 at the age of 49 and was given a prognosis of 6 months to a year. My mom was a warrior and was prepared to battle the disease with every fiber of her being. However, the cancer was very aggressive, and she passed away on September 21st, 2018. Two things happened that day: her life was prematurely cut short by pancreatic cancer, and my life became segmented into two parts - before and after this.
In 2023, the 5-year relative survival rate for pancreatic cancer is 12%, an increase from 8% in 2018. Insurmountable research and advocacy are necessary to advance pancreatic cancer patients' survival. This is where PanCAN PurpleStride comes in! PanCAN PurpleStride is the number one way PanCAN raises money to fund vital research that can bring new treatment options to patients, and gives them free, personalized one-to-one support through PanCAN Patient Services.
