Sarla's team is raising money in support of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network by participating in PurpleStride. We are privileged to have you visit our page and to share the story of my inspiration and my mother, Dr. Sarla Kothary.
Sarla was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in May 2013, just before her 70th birthday. She began treatment at the University of Michigan Cancer Center under the care of the wonderful Dr. Mark Zalupski. For 20 months she endured over 50 rounds of chemo, lived bravely and tried her best to live a normal, spirited and unhindered life. During her illness, she would travel to see family and friends, and her last trip was to New York to meet the latest addition to her family, her granddaughter Misha. This trip was just five days before she passed away.
We all miss my mom dearly. She was a sweet and compassionate woman. As a physician at the University of Michigan, she had an impeccable bedside manner and as a mother/wife/daughter/sister/grandmother/aunt/friend, she loved unconditionally and with all her heart. Her friends and family were everything to her.
The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is an amazing organization, with the passion and commitment to finding a cure for this terrible disease. I formed Sarla’s Team in honor of my mom, her strength and to help all those battling pancreatic cancer. This is #whyistride!
