In October of 2018 Cheryl Farah lost her fight against Pancreatic Cancer.   She was my friend, my daughter-in-law's mother, Doug's wife, Patti's sister, and everyone's friend.  And she was one of the bravest women I have ever known.  Plus the toughest fighter I will ever know.  She is the reason we have Team Cheryl, which we formed just before she died, and the reason we keep on fighting for a cure for this disease.

PurpleStride Portland gives us a chance to fight like Cheryl fought.  Each year we raise funds to donate to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, an organization that supports patient care and research in the fight against this cancer.  This community has made huge strides in funding research and getting funds from the government to expand that research.  Watching a friend lose her battle to a disease makes you feel helpless -- but being a part of the fight to end the disease can be exhilarating.  Please join us in the fight.

Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of all major cancers, although 2023 saw the 5-year survival rate move to 13% because of research and better patient care, in large part to the efforts of PanCAN. This deadly disease has stolen our best and our brightest, but it can’t take away our determination.
