Hey there, ya'll, and welcome to the BEST team in the 2023 Louisiana Purple Stride!!!! 

Krewe de Marche Violette!  (French for, "Purple Stride Krewe!") 

I am the Louisiana Affiliate Chair for Pancan, and welcome each of you to our team!  I have a personal connection to this disease.  My mom fought a 20-month battle that ended on December 2, 2019.  My family's world was turned upside down by a disease I had only heard distant mentions of.  As many of us have learned, we don't hear about this disease until it's "too late," or if it's "someone else."  We never think it can be us or our loved ones, until it is.  

From the moment my mom was diagnosed, and still to this day, I have put everything I have in raising awareness and learning as much as I can about this disease.  It isn't fair how so many other forms of cancer are well advocated for in the mainstream population, while pancreatic cancer, the 3rd leading cause of cancer-related deaths with a survival rate of about 11 percent, is not.  I can't tell you how many times I have been asked what the color purple stands for!  

So, I want all of us to vow to change this, not just  for the ones we may have lost or those who are still fighting, but for our kids, grandkids, nation and the entire world!  If not us, then who?  

It's 2023!  2020, 2021 and 2022 were one for the books as far as crazy times go!   Now that things are hopefully settling down, I am SUPER excited to have this in-person event in New Orleans where we can walk or run together to represent how much we all care about the people affected by this disease!  Comradery and unity are so essential in the fight!!!

We want to make the biggest impact on the lives of pancreatic cancer patients – and we need your help to do that! TOGETHER-WE ACHIEVE MORE!!!

PanCAN PurpleStride is the number one way PanCAN raises money to fund vital research that can bring new treatment options to patients, and gives them free, personalized one-to-one support through PanCAN Patient Services. I can't tell you how many times I called Patient Services for advice in my family's 20-month long journey, and even cried tears on the phone with these volunteers! I literally had no one who understood what I was going through, and they were a true light to guide me emotionally and towards every avenue of treatment that was tried! I know how valuable this resource is, and want EVERY patient who is diagnosed to have access to them!  

Here’s where you come in! We’ve set an ambitious fundraising goal – because the more money we raise, the bigger impact we make – and would appreciate a gift of any size to help us get there.  This team has a lofty goal of $15,000, because we aren't bashful when it comes to funding the research and tools needed to fight!  God never told us to come to him with our small needs!  He wants us to dream big, and that's what we are doing this year!  

PanCAN PurpleStride is for everyone,  not just athletes!  Trust me, I will be in a knee brace and walking, not running, but it's not the pace that matters, it's the presence!!!!
