In 2018, I began to lose weight, my appetize was not good and my energy level was very low. I made an appointment to see my doctor and he discovered my blood markers were high. Immediately, he set up an appointment for me to get a scan. After running several tests, it was discovered that I had blockage to my pancreas; this was a blessing, otherwise the cancer might not have been diagnosed until it had spread. My treatment included Chemotherapy, Surgery, and Radiation.
I Completed my treatment in February 2020. It was not easy, but my faith, my support from immediate family, my Church family, my Travelers family and my friends made it easier. I was told from the very beginning from my CEO, Alan, the Personal lines Senior Leadership Team, my RVP(Annette) and RSD (Kim), that I had only one job, to get well.
My advice to anyone that is being treated for cancer is to not focus on the outcome, but on the process. The outcome had already been determined by the Lord.
Three keys to get through the process:
· You don’t have to go through the process alone: Depend on those who love and care for you
· Keep your focus on the Lord and thank Him for being with you doing the process. Remember, He loves you and He always is working for your good.
· Memorize a Bible verse that will help you during the process. My verse is: Be joyful in hope, patient in suffering, and faithful in prayers (Romans 12:12)
So as Paul Harvey would say, “here is the rest of the story,”
· I am healthier than I was before I was diagnosed with cancer
· I am a few pounds lighter; but that is a good thing
· I am walking at least five miles per day
· I am playing golf regularly
· My hair is grey, but I have plenty of it
Here is where I need your help. I have set a goal to raise $5000.00 for Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Foundation. Their mission is to take bold action to improve the lives of everyone impacted by pancreatic cancer by advancing scientific research, building community, sharing knowledge, and advocating for patients.
My main reason to getting involved in this organization is to increase the survival rate, currently it is only 12%. Yes! that is too late. If you would like to make a donation, please click on the link below:
